Tropical Depression Emong is on track to make landfall over Batanes and Babuyan Islands on Monday, threatening the areas with intense rains, PAGASA said.
At 7 a.m. Monday, the fifth storm of 2021 was spotted 385 kilometers east northeast of Tuguegarao, Cagayan. It could intensify into a tropical storm within the day, the state weather bureau said.
Emong will likely exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday.
Signal no. 1, or or winds of 30-60 kph may be experienced in at least 36 hours, is hoisted over these areas:
- Batanes
- Northeastern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga) including Babuyan Islands
Areas under signal no. 1 might experience slight damage to houses made of light materials or makeshift structures in exposed areas due to rains, while plants may be tilted, downed or damaged.
Rough seas may be experienced over the seaboards of areas under signal no. 1 and the remaining seaboard of Cagayan. Sea travel is risky under these conditions, PAGASA said.
