TROPICAL DEPRESSION EMONG

  • The low pressure area east of the Philippines intensifiedinto Tropical Depression Emong, the fifth storm of 2021, and threatens extreme Northern Luzon.
  • Apart from Emong, PAGASA is monitoring another low pressure area off Oriental Mindoro which could also intensify into a tropical cyclone.

TAAL VOLCANO WATCH

  • Taal Volcano continues to release high levels of volcanic sulfur dioxide gas and steam-rich plumes as it remains under Alert Level 3.
  • By Sunday afternoon, Phivolcs said Taal emitted an “anomalously high” level of volcanic sulfur dioxide gas as the agency advised nearby communities to take precautions.
  • Thousands of residents were forced to evacuate after Taal spewed boiling water and magma last week.
  • Although volcanoes are hard to predict, their behavior follows a certain pattern, take Taal for example, as a geologist explains.
