A Filipino family just won the largest lottery jackpot in the history of Manitoba, Canada. The Chua family finally claimed their winnings on Feb. 2 amounting to CAD$60 million, the equivalent of P2.25 billion.
"I thought it might be a Free Play of something," said John Chua, as he and his family were presented to the media by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). "But it said $60 million, I was confused so I checked on the website when I got home."
According to the WCLC, Chua did not realize he had won the largest jackpot in the state's history. Chua purchased the lottery tickets online.
The lucky numbers Chua picked were 11, 21, 23, 25, 41, and 43.
Mother Thought His Son Was Joking
According to his mother, Angie, she said she thought her son was joking when he broke the news that he had just won $60 million.
"He always plays jokes! He's a joke, so I didn't believe it," said his mother.
Asked about what he plans to do with his newfound fortune, Chua said he's still thinking about it.
"I just want to take the time and do the smart thing," said Chua.
