Commuters using the newly-inaugurated LRT-2 East Extension project will be able to ride from Santolan to Antipolo Stations and vice versa for free for two weeks.

During the project's inauguration on Thursday, Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade granted the request of President Rodrigo Duterte to give commuters free rides for two weeks. This covers trips from Santolan to Antipolo stations and vice versa.

"Binulungan ko si Art, sabi ko pwede bang isa dalawa, o kaya mo dalawang linggong libreng pasakay para naman maligayahan yung mga tao lalo na yung mga estudyante?" the President said.

"Can I ask for a moratorium sa bayad, libre for two or three weeks? Two weeks daw, kaya daw niya," he added.

The LRT-2 East Extension Project is expected to shorten travel time from Recto in Manila to Antipolo in Rizal to 40 minutes compared to an estimated three-hour trip via jeepney or bus.

The two stations in the project --- Marikina and Antipolo --- are seen to accommodate an additional 80,000 passengers daily.
