Pregnant workers in the informal sector will be given cash aid under a bill filed by Senator Risa Hontiveros, who called it an "economic booster."
Under Senate Bill 2175, which seeks to amend the Expanded Maternity Leave Law, all pregnant workers who are not members of the Social Security System will be entitled to a one-time maternity cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
This amount is equivalent to the prevailing minimum wage in the worker's region multiplied by 22 days. Hontiveros chairs the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality
“Ang pagpasok sa informal economy ay nagpapakita ng katibayan ng ating mga kabarong nagdadalang tao. Ngunit huwag nating kalimutan na ang pagbubuntis ay isang katangi-tanging panahon sa buhay ng mga babae. Ang pagpapahalaga sa karapatan ng mga buntis ay pagtataguyod ng kinabukasan ng tahanang Pilipino,” Hontiveros said.
