99 Kids in a Quezon City Orphanage Get COVID

Ninety-nine children in a Quezon City orphanage got infected with COVID-19, the local government said Thursday as it reminded the public to strictly observe virus protocols.

The minors were among the 122 people who tested positive for the virus at the Gentle Hands Orphanage. The rest are staff members.

The outbreak was reportedly caused by an asymptomatic individual who visited the facility, Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit chief Dr. Rolando Cruz said since children are prohibited in public places.

Kailangang mapanatili ng mga ganitong closed long-term care facilities ang mahigpit na protocols dahil kahit isang kaso lang ang makapasok sa kanila ay madaling mahahawa ang lahat,” Cruz said.

The Quezon City LGU said it sent supplies such as paracetamol, vitamins, hygiene kits, face masks, alcohol, and food packs to Gentle Hands. Mayor Joy Belmonte ordered the city's health officials to monitor the health condition of those in the facility.
