Tropical storm Jolina (Conson) left one dead and 17 others missing after flooding parts of Luzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) said on Thursday.

Jolina, the 10th storm of the year, reached typhoon category on Monday before it made landfall over Hernani, Eastern Samar, the first of eight times it hit land, before weakening into a tropical storm on Wednesday. It is expected to exit PAR Thursday night.

Among those confirmed missing as of 12 p.m. Thursday were 12 fishermen in Catbalogan, Samar who ventured into the sea despite warnings to mariners. Five of them have been rescued and found alive. Authorities are also looking for three missing fishermen in Culuba, Biliran.

Two more fatalities, 14 reported missing, and four injured in Naro, Masbate, and four missing in Esperanza, Masbate are up for validation, the agency said.

About 83,650 individuals or 20,777 families from Central Luzon, Metro Manila, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas were affected by the onslaught of Jolina. Some 7,538 displaced persons were brought to evacuation centers.

Some 20 cities and municipalities have experienced power interruptions or outages. Power has been restored in half of these areas. Three areas have been affected by water supply interruption.

The country is also bracing for Typhoon Kiko, the strongest storm to enter PAR this 2021, threatening to hit land in extreme northern Luzon.
