Actor Kit Thompson is under investigation for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend over a "misunderstanding", the Philippine National Police said Friday.

Thompson's girlfriend was rescued from a hotel in Tagaytay City and was brought to a hospital after police received a 911 call.

While the police did not name Thompson's girlfriend in its report, the actor is known to be in a relationship with actress Ana Jalandoni.

The PNP, citing the victim's statement, said a "misunderstanding" resulted in physical violence.

"Allegedly, the suspect assaulted and punched the victim on different parts of her body," the PNP said.

Jalandoni on Friday afternoon posted a photo of herself on Instagram where her bruised face can be seen. She said she would release a statement soon, and thanked those who checked up on her.

"This is me saying, you all should be careful out there," she wrote in the caption.

An investigation is underway to determine if Thompson violated the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act.

Thompson rose to fame after joining the ABS-CBN reality show "Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition 4" in 2012.
