More than 12,000 doctors on Monday endorsed the candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Francis Pangilinan, saying the vice president was the first to "show up during difficult times" for health workers in the COVID frontlines.
Her swift COVID-19 response at the onset of the pandemic proves she listens to the people and sensitive to their needs, they said during a virtual event aired early Monday.
Cynthia Cabangal-Ng, speaking on behalf of the Ilonggo Doctors for Leni, said Robredo supplied protective equipment, test kits, and laboratory equipment to hospitals in Iloilo, Antique, and Capiz when the pandemic struck.
"Alam nating lahat na the COVID-19 pandemic was a very challenging situation and VP Leni really showed up during these difficult times," Cabangal-Ng said.
"Bakit nandito kami? We strongly believe that Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan will provide the transparent, decent, accountable, responsive leadership and steer the Philippines to a better direction."
Robredocs Tarlac's Willie Calma also recalled how the OVP delivered supplies to hospitals in Tarlac on the second week of the pandemic in 2020.
"Nakita namin na sa lahat ng mga kandidato para sa pagkapangulo, siya lamang ang bukod-tanging nagpakita ng suporta sa mga health workers ngayong pandemic," he said.
Anna Lissa Chan, who represented the Zamboanga City Doctors for Leni-Kiko, said they were caught "empty handed, flat-footed" when the coronavirus started spreading in March 2020. She said doctors there were shocked when face mask and PPE supplies arrived from the Office of the Vice President.
"VP Robredo truly works for us and truly cares for us that's why we are here today to tell the world that VP Leni should be our president because she knows our needs and she's helped us without us asking for help."
