(SPOT.ph) Most companies immediately adopted digitalization as soon as Metro Manila was put under community quarantine in March 2020. Organizations streamlined business functions and employees started working remotely; those caught in between were either laid off or forced to catch up with digital skills. The trend is likely to continue in 2021, according to employment-oriented online service LinkedIn, which recently released their annual "Jobs on the Rise" report showing career categories that have seen the highest year-over-year growth rates in hiring. The timeframe used was from April 2020 to October 2020.
"This list of jobs on the rise demonstrates that there are still opportunities for job seekers with a range of skills and experience. By adopting a lifelong learning mindset, and being open to picking up new skills through various courses-for example, courses on digital skills or soft skills-workers can prepare themselves to take up these emerging roles," said Frank Koo, Head of Asia, Talent and Learning Solutions for LinkedIn.
Consumers in Southeast Asia, the Philippines included, have gone increasingly digital-some doing it for the first time. LinkedIn reported that one in three of digital service consumers in the region were new to the service and 94% of them are likely to stick with the available digital platforms moving forward. With this landscape, demand for workers with tech skills remain, from data analysts to e-commerce roles. Traditional roles have also evolved: healthcare evolved to health technology while the academe demanded tech-savvy workers.
