Lolita Hizon, Tocino Queen, Passes Away

Lolita Hizon, who is credited for inventing the Filipino breakfast favorite tocino, has passed away, her family said.

The "Pampanga's Best" matriarch is survived by her husband, Angelo Hizon Jr., their 12 children, 61 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren according to a family announcement shared by her daughter, former San Fernando, Pampanga councilor Angelica Hizon.

“Although we will miss her terribly, her legacy lives on. Apung Lolet always said that the success of Pampanga’s Best has been because of Divine Providence," the Hizon family said.

Known as Apung Lolet,  the Pampanga's Best founder is credited as the inventor of the sweet-salty tocino, which rose to become a national breakfast staple. Her face is also the logo of the homegrown brand.

While Pampanga's Best is known for tocino, it also manufactures hotdogs, hams, tapa, and embotido.
