Construction on the LRT-1 Cavite Extension, which aims to shorten the travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor, has reached CAVITEX, the Department of Transportation said Tuesday.

The project utilizes a building method called Full Span Girder Launching which is faster than traditional pre-casting, the DOTr said.

Special equipment used hastens construction. Transport of girders on-road is avoided during this process, which prevents traffic congestion in areas affected by construction.

As of July 2021, the project is 58.03% complete. Once fully operational, it is expected to increase daily ridership from 800,000 from 458,000 and slash travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor, Cavite from to just 25 minutes from 70 minutes.

The Cavite Extension Project aims to expand the existing LRT-1 by 11 kilometers, with an additional eight stations passing through Parañaque City, Las Piñas City, and Bacoor City.
