The Makabayan Bloc on Friday formally endorsed the presidential and vice presidential bids of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan in the May 9 elections, widening their support base to include progressive groups advocating for Filipino masses.

The announcement was spearheaded by human rights lawyer and former Bayan Muna Chair Neri Colmenares, upon his inclusion in the 1Sambayan opposition coalition’s senatorial slate.

The group said their decision to adopt the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem was in line with their efforts to stop the tandem of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. for president and his running mate, Sara Duterte-Carpio.
