Manila Mayor Isko Moreno tested positive for COVID-19 and was set to be confined at the Sta. Ana Hospital, city authorities said.
Moreno said he went down with some coughs and colds and felt body pains. He said his work would not be disturbed by his COVID diagnosis.
"Kapit lang. Tuloy ang buhay. Tuloy pa rin ang gobyerno sa Maynila. Umasa tayo, magtiwala tayo sa Diyos, makararaos din tayo," he said.
Also on Sunday, the Philippines reported nearly 15,000 COVID cases, the second highest single day tally since the pandemic began in March 2020.
