Meralco said Friday it would increase power rates for November, citing the higher cost of buying electricity that it distributres to consumers.
The power utility said it was implementing a P0.3256 increase per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This means that a typical household consuming 200 kWh could see a P65 increase in its total bill.
The increase in electricity rates came with increased mobility as the country shifted to a new COVID-19 restriction system to avoid large-scale lockdowns and revive the economy.
Meralco said it had to increase rates due to the Malampaya facility maintenance shutdown from Oct. 2 to 25 which resulted in a lesser available supply of power.
