IN PHOTOS: Check Out Metro Davao's Dedicated Bike Lanes

Metro Davao's dedicated bike lanes were inaugurated in late July, one out of three components in the national government's cycling network plan to promote active transport during the pandemic.

Davao's 54.71-kilometer bike lane network stretches across 14 road sections and features white and green pavement markings and is closed off by bollards and concrete delineators. Signages, bike symbols, and solar studs are in place for road safety.

Bike racks beneath sheds were also installed so cyclists can park their wheels under the shade.

“By providing Davaoeños with bicycle lanes, they are able to safely maximize usage of their bicycles whether as a mode of transportation for work or business or as a means for exercise and leisure activities. Biking is a key mechanism in the fulfillment of the city’s sustainability and renewability goals,” Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said.

Completed on June 30, the Metro Davao network covers the following road sections:

  • Sandawa Road
  • Roxas Avenue
  • Quezon Avenue
  • Quirino Avenue
  • E. Jacinto Extension
  • Dr. A. Gahol Street
  • Mabini Street
  • F. Torres Street
  • Loyola Street
  • Porras Street
  • Inigo Street
  • Decasio Street.

The bike lane project was funded by the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act of 2020, with a total allocation of P145.371 million. Similar bike lanes were constructed in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu for a total of 497 kilometers dedicated lanes for cyclists to promote safe biking and active transport in the country.
