COVID-19 restrictions in Metro Manila could be eased further in July, Malacañang said Monday as prevailing community quarantine protocols are set to expire this week.
There is a chance that the capital region could be placed under ordinary general community quarantine or GCQ starting July 1, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
"Kung magiging regular GCQ, I would say may chance po 'yan," he said in a Palace press briefing.
From June 16 to 30, Metro Manila and Bulacan were under GCQ "with some restrictions" while Laguna, Rizal, and Cavite were under GCQ "with heightened restrictions."
The government's inter-agency task force on pandemic response is set to meet Monday afternoon to discuss community quarantine protocols but Roque said he was unsure whether President Rodrigo Duterte would announce the new classifications in his weekly address on Monday night.
It was only this month that the government largely eased COVID-19 restrictions in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces following over a month of lockdowns.
