The Philippines on Wednesday logged 1,591 new COVID-19 cases, among the lowest in 2021,  as Metro Manila is released from curfew restrictions after 20 months.

The day's total brought the total active cases to 38,014. The Department of Health also reported 186 deaths and 4,294 recoveries.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the Philippines has a cumulative total of 2,793,898 cases, 43,586 deaths and 2,712,298 recoveries.

Vaccinations for minors has expanded in cities to cover kids without underlying conditions as Metro Manila remains under Alert Level 3 until Nov. 15. The Inter-Agency Task Force earlier said it was studying the possible removal of the face shield requirement as infections decline.

Starting Nov. 4, curfew in Metro Manila will be lifted, with movement of minors subjected to local government rules.
