The Philippines on Wednesday logged 3,218 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest since March.
The day's tally brought active cases to 50,152, with 6,660 new recoveries and 271 new deaths reported.
Overall, a total of 2,768,849 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,676,349 have recovered and 42,348 died.
Alert Level 3 in Metro Manila is expected to last unitl the end of October. Cemeteries nationwide are closed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 to prevent crowds during the Day of the Dead.
Vaccination for the younger population with underlying conditions is underway, which will expand to cover all minors nationwide starting Nov. 3. Only Pfizer and Moderna can be used on 12 to 17-year-olds, as cleared by the Food and Drug Administration.
The country has a goal of 1.5 million daily vaccinations for a "happy Christmas" vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. said as more jabs arrive. At least 50 million Filipinos are expected to be fully vaccinated by the end of 2021.
