The Philippines on Thursday logged 10,019 new infections as a second international publication, Nikkei Asia, ranked the country last among 121 countries in terms of pandemic recovery.

Active cases now stand at 115,328. There were 7,425 new recoveries and 109 deaths reported.

Total cumulative cases since the pandemic began is now at 2,632,881, of which 2,478,616 have  recovered and 39,937 have died.

The Department of Health said additional deaths previously excluded due to COVIDKaya system errors will be reported tomorrow in a separate advisory.

Alert Level 4 with eased restrictions is expected to last until Oct. 15. Eased restrictions allow more movement for vaccinated individuals to help businesses recover. Granular lockdowns will still be implemented in barangays or streets, depending on the city mayor's orders.

The Philippines placed last among 121 countries in the Nikkei Asia COVID-19 Recovery Index, highlighting pandemic challenges that caused it to fall to the bottom of a similar ranking by Bloomberg.

The Tokyo-based financial magazine gave the Philippines a score of 30.5 in its Sept. 30 index, which assessed countries and regions based on infection management, vaccine rollouts and social mobility. The higher the ranking, the closer the country is to recovery, it added.
