The Commission on Elections on Monday said it would only allow one person to accompany candidates in the 2022 elections when they file their certificates of candidacy or COC in October to avoid crowding.
"Very strict tayo sa pag-file ng COC. Lilimitahan natin yung pwedeng sumama sa loob ng filing mismo," Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in an interview with GMA News.
"Kandidato lang at isang kasama ang pwedeng pumasok sa filing area," he said.
The Comelec has set the filing of COCs for Oct. 1 to 8, but unlike in previous elections, it will not be held in the Palacio del Gobernador building in Intramuros.
"Yung filing, kakaibang lugar na siya ngayon. Hindi na siya katulad dati sa Intramuros kung saan tabi ng kalye pintuan na kaagad ng Comelec," Jimenez said without mentioning the new venue.
"Walang ibang tao doon kundi yung filing lang. So wala tayong crowd na ine-expect," he added.
To ensure observance of minimum health standards, the Comelec previously said it would restrict physical interactions between candidates and the voters for the 2022 elections.
The commission is also considering extending the voting hours on the May 9 election as it was not in favor of proposals to spread out the election in multiple days.
