PH Reports 16,907 New COVID-19 Cases as Pandemic Slows Worldwide

The Philippines on Saturday reported 16,907 additional COVID-19 cases as the pandemic slowed globally.

The day's tally brought the total active cases to 165,110. Since the start of the pandemic, the Philippines has reported 2, 470,235 total COVID-19 cases with 2,267, 720recoveries and 37,405 deaths.

The country's pilot run of a new COVID-19 alert system with granular lockdowns in Metro Manila is set to end on Sept. 30 and could be adopted in the rest of the country.

Government in recent days has been easing restrictions anew, lifting the face shield requirement in outdoor areas, and allowing wakes for cremated remains of COVID-19 fatalities.
