More Filipino healthcare workers can work abroad as the government raised the ceiling for the overseas deployment of new hires.
Up to 6,500 newly-hired healthcare workers can work abroad higher than the previous ceiling of 5,000, Malacañang said Friday.
“The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Thursday, June 17, 2021, increased the annual deployment ceiling of new hire healthcare workers (HCWs) for Mission Critical Skills (MCS) to 6,500,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
Also included in the adjustment are healthcare workers who have perfected contracts as of May 31, 2021, Roque said. Healthcare workers under government-to-government labor agreements however are not included.
The limit on the deployment of healthcare workers was imposed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III earlier sought to double the limit for the deployment of healthcare workers abroad, saying the Philippines can afford it without suffering a shortage.
