The Philippines will be among the first recipients of COVID-19 vaccine donations from the U.S., Manila's top envoy to Washington said Monday, as America moved to share surplus jabs that are sorely needed by the rest of the world.
U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to announce this week the distribution of up to 80 million vaccine doses, Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel "Babe" Romualdez said, citing official communication from the White House.
Biden is sharing the vaccines now after ensuring that "Americans are taken care of first." Romualdez said.
"Tayo nandoon na sa first batch that would be sent out to the Philippines, specifically for close allies of the United States, 'yun ang inuuna nila, at saka 'yung mga nangangailangan na bayan."
