Vice President Leni Robredo said Thursday the possibility of an Eraserheads reunion was one of the things she and the band's former frontman Ely Buendia talked about when he visited her office last year.
Buendia "was open to it" when her team brought up the idea of a reunion concert in their campaign, Robredo said, noting that the eventuality of it would of course still depend on the participation of other Eraserheads members.
The year 2022 would mark the 20th year since he left Eraserheads, the band that first put him on the Philippine music scene's map of icons.
"He was actually very gracious. He said that he was willing to support us in any way that we think he could be of help. So, sinabi namin ano ba, willing ka ba na magkaroon ng show o reunion concert with Eheads and he was open to it. Pero siyempre hindi lang siya magdedecide nu'n siyempre 'yung ibang kasama magdedecide," Robredo said in a Zoom call with lifestyle journalists.
Buendia's visit to OVP had intensified hopes among fans for a reunion, as the former frontman had said Robredo's presidential run was a condition for it.
"Pero when he went kasi he was about to leave for a series of concerts in the U.S. so sabi niya he'll be back I think middle of December. So sabi niya 'pag nakabalik na ako at nakaquarantine na ako, just tell me what I can do to support. So siyempre very happy for fans like us," she said.
During his visit, Buendia gave the presidential aspirant a vinyl copy of the legendary pop band's debut album, "Ultraelectromagenticpop", which Robredo said she was so happy about as a fan herself.
"Siyempre, sobrang kilig. Actually sa opisina namin tinatawanan ko yung mga staff. Kasi ako I was so happy na he went to the extent of visiting us in our office," she said.
"Pero sa opisina namin, we get visited by a lot celebrities pero maraming mga nasa office na shy magpapicture pero when Ely Buendia went, 'yung mga shy magpapicture talagang nangunguna sila. So sabi ko hindi lang pala tayo 'yung Eheads fan dito," she added.
Now that it's January, with roughly four months left until the elections, Robredo said in the end of the Eraserheads reunion: "We'll pursue that after the surge."
