Globe Subscribers, Don't Fall for Tampered Home WiFi Modems

Globe will take legal action against scammers.

Globe Telecom on Monday warned the public of a modus operandi involving the sale of tampered Globe at Home WiFi modems, passing off as DITO Telecommunity products.

According to Globe, individuals and online stores were reported to be selling Globe modems with DITO stickers to unsuspecting customers, making them appear as DITO modems. As of Monday, the country's third telco offers mobile promos for texts, call, and data, and is yet to roll out a home wifi plan.

"The modus is done through the unauthorized unlocking of the Globe device, substituting the Globe SIM with a DITO Telecommunity SIM and concealing the Globe At Home trademark with a sticker of DITO," Globe said in a statement.

All Globe at Home Prepaid WiFi kits have pre-installed SIMs in the modems which can be activated via the app or Facebook Messenger upon purchase.

"We are prepared to take the necessary legal action against these unscrupulous individuals and establishments carrying out these deceptive business practices, through the assistance of law enforcement authorities," Globe said.

Those in the possession of a tampered modem or encountered the sale of of one are advised to report it to the Department of Trade and Industry—Consumer Protection Group via their email address at [email protected] or texting mobile numer 09178343330.

Reports may also be filed through Globe At Home's official Facebook page via Messenger.

Globe customers are encouraged to buy only from legitimate Globe At Home stores, authorized dealers, and online sites to ensure quality and service guarantee.
