At least 20 names, including four Cabinet members, are being considered to be part of PDP-Laban's senatorial line-up in the 2022 elections, a party official said Tuesday.
Among those being considered are Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade, Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III, Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles, and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, Quirino Gov. Dakila Cua, and Cong. Lucy Torres-Gomez, said PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag.
Matibag said some groups were also pushing for the inclusion of Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission chair Greco Belgica, Agrarian Reform Sec. John Castriciones, and Public Works Sec. Mark Villar in the PDP-Laban's senatorial lineup.
He, however, refused to confirm if television personality Willie Revillame and actor Robin Padilla, two of the reported senatorial bets of President Rodrigo Duterte, were being considered as well.
Matibag said one of the factors they were considering in choosing their senatorial bets in 2022 was winnability.
"Yung competency madali na yan e, kaya nila yung trabaho na yan, mapaghahandaan. Pero ang tinitignan natin dito ay yung winnability," he said.
"Siyempre we look at the track record and of course the relationship to the administration, how they behave," he added.
Matibag said they were targeting to come up with the final names in their senatorial lineup by Sept. 8 where they will hold the PDP-Laban national convention.
