Presidential candidate Leni Robredo has secured the endorsement of popular TV host Vice Ganda who was the surprise guest at her campaign and birthday rally in Pasay City Saturday that organizers hope to be her biggest yet.
Vice, the most prominent LGBTQIA+ entertainer in the Philippines with TV hosting, commercial and movie gigs on top of her eponymous social media and merchandise presence, showed how Robredo's message of inclusivity resonates with the community.
"Ang tagal na natin talo, ipanalo naman natin ang isa't isa," Vice said. "Kaya maraming tong mahirap dahil ninanakawan nayo ng pagkakataon na bumangon. Hindi siya magpapayaman."
Vice joined a long list of celebrity endorsers that includes Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis, Piolo Pascual and Miss Universe queens Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray. On Saturday night, she sang a Madonna medley of "Frozen" and "Like a Prayer".
At around 5 p.m., as the program was about to start, Vice was a trending topic on Twitter as netizens speculated that she was the surprise guest and endorser to be revealed later in the evening.
There's two weeks left of campaigning before the May 9 vote and Robredo hopes to ride on the nine-point surge in her voter preference rating based on Pulse Asia's March 17 to 21 poll that still put her rival Bongbong Marcos in first spot and a majority rating.
