Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday listed down several suggestions on how to make the upcoming two-week ECQ in Metro Manila as the last ever lockdown for millions of Filipinos.

The National Capital Region will be under the strictest community quarantine from Aug. 6-20, 2021 to control the hyper contagious Delta coronavirus variant. Robredo said lockdowns wouldn't work if pandemic control measures remain the same.

"'Yung bakuna, dapat paabutin ng 750,000 a day ang nababakunahan para mapabilis 'yung pag-abot natin sa herd immunity," Robredo said in a statement.

The country administered an average of 523,018 jabs per day as of end of July, National Task Force Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Sec. Carlito Galvez said. The aim is to vaccinate 50 million to 70 million this year. On Aug. 3, about 21 million vaccine doses have been administered with 9.8 million Filipinos fully vaccinated.

Robredo said daily COVID tests should be doubled to 120,000 from 50,000 to identify where outbreaks are happening. She also suggested the use of a single contact tracing app.

The Department of Interior and Local Government earlier urged LGUs to stop developing their own contact tracing apps and use the government's official contact tracing app StaySafe instead.

Robredo also called for the urgent distribution of cash aid or ayuda for indigent citizens and those affected by the lockdown while calling for support for small businesses. She said hospitals must have access to a steady supply of medicine and oxygen.

"Willing tayong tumulong sa anumang paraan para maabot ang mga layunin natin na makaraos na sa pandemya," she said.
