Malacañang has declared Friday, June 24, a special non-working day in Manila City in honor of the capital's founding anniversary.
Proclamation No. 1400, signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, stated that the declaration was meant to allow Manila City residents to celebrate the capital's 451st anniversary.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government,” the proclamation stated.
Manila City, the capital of the Philippines, was founded on June 24, 1571 by Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi.
