The typhoon hovering over the Philippine Sea will continue to rapidly intensify and may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Tuesday or Wednesday, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
Typhoon Mindulle, spotted 1,650 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, will be called Lannie if it enters PAR, the 12th storm of the year, PAGASA said in its 11 p.m. bulletin on Saturday.
It packs maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 205 kilometers per hour, moving in the north northwestward direction at 10 kilometers per hour.
Mindulle was forecast to rapidly intensify within the next 36 hours and may reach a peak intensity of around 205 to 215 kilometers per hour by Monday. However, it is unlikely to directly affect the country's weather condition throughout the forecast period, PAGASA said.
Should it enter PAR, it will only for a brief period, PAGASA said. There is also an increasing likelihood that it would not enter the PAR at all based on the trend of previous forecasts.
As Mindulle is expected to cause moderate to rough seas over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon beginning Monday, PAGASA advised mariners to take precautionary measures when going out to sea.
