Facebook is making blood donation easier with a new feature that aims to connect donors with nearby blood banks.

The Department of Health announced the new Facebook blood donation feature on Wednesday in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross.

The feature, accessible via facebook.com/donateblood, will be shown to Facebook users in the Philippines aged 18-65 according to the health department.

Once an individual decides to receive updates,  notifications will be available when a nearby blood bank needs donations.  Interested donors can also set reminders and plans for future blood donations.

"We can let you know when blood banks near you need help," Facebook said.

The new feature also contains information on donating blood like how to prepare, what to expect, and who can donate.

Filipinos are encouraged to donate blood to help save the lives of millions who need it.
