Ex-President Joseph "Erap" Estrada is in "stable condition," his son said Wednesday, a day after the former leader was attached to a ventilator due to his COVID pneumonia.
The 83-year-old Estrada's requirement for oxygen support is "slowly getting better" and his kidney function is "improving," his son former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada said in a statement.
"His other vital organs are functioning well. We were informed by his physicians that his inflammatory markers are on a downward trend for which we are thankful and hopefully this signals that his immune system is responding well," the younger Estrada said.
"We are praying that no new complications set in and that he continues to improve," he added.
The elder Estrada, who was placed under intensive care late Sunday, needed a mechanical ventilator on Tuesday due to the "resulting increase in oxygen requirement."
