New trains for the LRT-1 line arrived on Monday, photos from the Department of Transportation showed.

A total of 120 light rail vehicles, or 30 train sets, from Spain and Mexico are set to arrive until June 2022. The fourth generation trains will be used for the LRT-1's existing system and for its Cavite Extension.

Each train set consists of four LRVs which can accommodate an estimate of 1,300 passengers. The new trainsets sport destination signs, a digital system, and special areas for wheelchairs for persons with disabilities.

The trainsets dropped of at the LRMC Baclaran Depot in Pasay will be deployed for commercial use on the existing LRT-1 system by next year, "after completing safety checks, inspections, required test runs with minimum kilometers, and acceptance tests," Transport Sec. Arthur Tugade said.
