The Philippines on Tuesday logged 1,067 new COVID-19 cases on the first day of Alert Level 1 in Metro Manila.

Active cases stand at 51,592, with a total of 1,652 new recoveries. No deaths were reported.

Overall, a total of 3,663,059 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 3,555,016 have recovered and 56,451 died.

Alert Level 1 is the lowest set of restrictions under the five-tier alert-based COVID quarantines.

The Department of Health likened Alert Level 1 to the “new normal", where capacity limits in business establishments and public transportation will be removed but minimum health standards will still be observed.

Temperature checks may be skipped under the lower alert level, Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles said. Employees are also encouraged to return to work.

All modes of public transportation can operate on full capacity, the first time in two years. Moviegoers are also allowed to eat snacks in cinemas.
