Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon on Wednesday said he was planning to retire from public service when his term as a senator ends in 2022.
Drilon, who has been a public servant for three decades , said running for president is not among his plans.
"I do not have the resources to run for president. I will retire from public service if I have no role in the coming administration," he said during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay media forum.
"I think I have given a big part of my life to public service. I am proud of what I have contributed to the well-being of the Filipinos. Give others a chance," he added.
Drilon, 75, has served as a senator for a total of 23 years, from 1995 to 2007 and again from 2010 until the present. He also served as Senate President thrice.
Prior to being a senator, Drilon also was a part of the executive branch, as labor secretary from 1987 to 1990 and justice secretary from 1990 to 1991 and again from 1992 to 1995.
