E-Scooter Riders Can Now Deliver for Foodpanda

A greener push for food deliveries.

Electric scooter riders may now deliver food for Foodpanda, the company said Wednesday, touting a greener push for its express delivery services. 

To pioneer the service, foodpanda said 25 e-scooter riders were deployed for short-deliveries of one to two-kilometers within Makati and Taguig's Bonifacio Global City.

“With the growing community of e-scooter riders who see it as a convenient way of getting around, we are opening this opportunity for them to have a source of income that will cover short-distance deliveries. We are piloting this in our two areas in the Metro and hopefully we will be able to cover more areas soon," said foodpanda managing director Daniel Marogy.

All approved scooter bikes must comply with city government requirements to ensure road safety, he said. The initiative is also in line with foodpanda's push to reduce its carbon footprint.

In the past year, local operations of the Berlin-based company have been underfire, as complaints of unfair labor practices against its delivery riders were raised.
