The Commission on Elections on Wednesday called on all eligible Filipinos currently overseas, or will be overseas by the May 9, 2022 elections, to avail of the extended voter registration period as it ends on Thursday, Oct. 14.
Overseas voter registration was supposed to end on Sept. 30, but the Comelec extended it from Oct. 1 to 14 in all Philippine Embassies and Consulates worldwide, including the Manila Economic and Cultural Economic Offices or MECOsin Taiwan, to allow more eligible voters to sign up.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to register as an overseas voter:
1. Fill out the forms
Fill out and print three copies of the OVF-1 form through iRehistro for Overseas Voting in a long bond paper, back to back. Don't affix your thumbmark and signature yet.
2. Prepare the required documentary requirements
If you are a Filipino citizen, be ready with your valid Philippine passport.
If you don't have a valid passport, present a certification of the Department of Foreign Affairs that it has reviewed the appropriate documents you submitted and found them sufficient to warrant the issuance of a passport or that you are a holder of a valid passport but are unable to produce it for a valid reason.
If you are a dual citizen and availed of the Citizen Retention and Reacquisition Act, present the original or certified true copy of the order of approval of your application to retain or reacquire Filipino citizenship issued by the post.
Alternatively, you may present the Identification Certificate issued by the Post or Bureau of Immigration.
If you are a seafarer, present a photocopy of your Seaman's Book or any other pertinent document.
3. Proceed to any overseas voter registration center located at the nearest Philippine Embassy, Consulate and MECO.
In order to process your application completely, provide the complete mailing address where you will be located during the overseas voting period, which is from April 10 to May 9, 2022, as well as your email address.
Take note that voter registration will take place during the operating hours of the foreign service post near you, so check their schedule first before visiting.
The Comelec also extended the local voter registration from Oct. 11 to 30 from the original deadline of Sept. 30.
