Tropical Depression Fabian has intensified into a tropical storm and will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon bringing rains over central Philippines, PAGASA said Sunday.
Fabian, the sixth storm of 2021, was spotted 1,090 kilometers east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon at 4 a.m. on Sunday, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center, and gusts of up to 80 kph. It is moving to the north northwest direction at 10 kph.
No storm warning signal has been raised, but Fabian and the low pressure area west of Cagayan are enhancing the southwest monsoon that will cause rains over Western Visayas, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro within the day, PAGASA said.
Fabian will remain far from the Philippine landmass throughout the forecast period and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday evening, it added.
