Filipinos are the most stressed out employees in Southeast Asia in 2021, analytics firm Gallup said in a report, highlighting the need to review workplace policies as return to office begins.

Employees worldwide were feeling more stressed in 2021 than they did in the first year of COVID-19 pandemic, with 44% of them saying they experienced a lot of stress, said Gallup in its "State of the Global Workplace: 2022 Report" where more than 68,000 employees in over 140 countries were surveyed.

Asked if they experienced stress "a lot of the day", 50% of the Filipino respondents said yes, Gallup said.

This is how many answered yes in other Southeast Asian countries:

2. Thailand - 41%
3. Cambodia - 38%
4. Myanmar - 37%
5. Vietnam - 35%

"While these employees may not be stressed about work, they were certainly stressed at work," said Gallup.

In the region, Filipino employees ranked third out of nine Southeast Asian nationalities when it comes to daily anger, second when it comes to daily sadness, and seventh when it comes to daily worry, it said.

Out of 10 regions, Southeast Asia is second to the last when it comes to daily stress.

While the U.S. and Canada are home to some of the most worried and stressed employees, these are also the best regions in the world to be an employee, said Gallup.

Organizations who take care of the well-being of their employees are more likely to keep their workers, attract top talent, see high productivity and performance at work, and improve the lives of their employees and their families, Gallup said.

"As the world emerges from the worst of the pandemic, employee well-being should be top priority for world leaders. This starts with organizations not just caring about their employees as workers but as people: People with complex stories, families, and friends to care for, all with goals of their own."
