Florita Nears Isabela, Signal 3 Raised in Some Areas

More areas in Luzon were placed under wind warning signals as Severe Tropical Storm Florita moved closer to northeast Luzon on Tuesday, PAGASA said, bringing heavy rains on the second day of the resumption of face-to-face classes.

Florita was spotted off the coast of Isabela at 7 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near the center and with gusts of 155 kph. It was moving north northgwest at 20 kph, the weather bureau said.

Signal No. 3 (Storm-force winds prevailing or expected within 18 hours) was hoisted over:

  • The southern portion of Babuyan Islands (Camiguin Is., Fuga Is., Dalupiri Is.)
  • The northern and eastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Buguey, Camalaniugan, Santa Teresita, Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca)
  • The eastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan)

Signal No. 2 (Gale-force winds prevailing or expected within 24 hours) was raised over:

Florita is forecast to make landfall in the vicinity of northern Isabela (coast of Palanan, Moconacon, or Divilacan) on Tuesday morning or in the vicinity of Cagayan (coast of Gattaran, Baggao, or Peñablanca) before noon or by early afternoon.

The storm will then traverse northern Luzon to the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday evening before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday morning.

Heavy to intense with at times torrential rains are expected over Cagayan, Isabela, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, and Zambales, while moderate to heavy with at times intense rains may occur over the northern portion of Aurora, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains could prevail over Camarines Norte, and the rest of Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
