GCash is reaching out to underserved areas and communities in the Philippines through the use of local dialects and languages to reach different regions, part of its goal to achieve financial inclusion for Filipinos.
The mobile wallet, which hosts over 66 million users, saw a boom in the past two years as digital payments became the go-to during COVID lockdowns.

In partnership with local government units, "we have made financial services available to tricycle drivers, wet market vendors, even traders. We have also given sari-sari store vendors access to these services as well as additional livelihood opportunities, taking steps towards finance for all," said Martha Sazon, President and CEO of Mynt in a briefing.
Though four in five Filipino adults have a GCash account, many still don't know how to use it or are intimidated. Through GCash Pera Outlet, sari-sari stores are transformed into digital community hubs and given more ways to earn income, Sazon said.
The GCash Pera Outlet allows sari-sari stores to operate as a GCash touchpoint for users. This means users can just go to a sari-sari store registered as a GCash Pera Outlet and avail services such as Cash In, Cash Out, Pay Bills and Send Money.

Despite return to the new normal of in-person meetings, Sazon said cashless and contactless transactions via GCash is here to stay.
"We're not seeing any plateauing in the near future, and hopefully with more innovation, we can encourage people to adopt [GCash]. Our target really is to go to the underserved and tap them, and to go to provinces, to go to the regions transform their lives, the way we've done in the Metros," she said.
