The iPhone 6s series from 2015 lives on for another year of bug fixes and security patches after Apple said it qualifies for the iOS 15 rollout. This means that your investment from six years ago is still worth it, as long as you don't expect zippy performance.
The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were refinements of one of the major redesigns of Apple's flagship product. Before the iPhone 6 series in 2014, the world's favorite smartphone had squarish sides and some glass on the back. That changed with the pebble-shaped iPhone 6, which was carried over until the iPhone Xs series of 2018.
The series also solved the "bendgate" issue on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus wherein the aluminim chasis bent when placed in rear pockets.

The iPhone 6s series was also the last of the top-tier iPhones with just a single camera on the back. The following year's iPhone 7 had twin cameras on the highest specced model. The current iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max have three cameras plus a LiDAR sensor.
Some lag is expected when older iPhones update to the new software. However, there's another drawback to the iPhone 6s, which users are too familiar with -- the base storage is just 16GB. Compare that to the 256GB to 512GB on-board memory on current iPhones, even 1TB on some Chinese-made devices.
With iOS 15 availability limited to the 6s and up, this means all iPhone 6 models and older are shut out of new features. Here are the iPhone models that can get iOS 15, according to Apple:

- iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus
- iPhone SE (first and second generation)
- iPod Touch (seventh generation)
