After becoming the butt of never-ending jokes from fans thirsting for her comeback, songstress Lorde finally ended her hiatus by teasing a new single with a cover that literally shows her buns out.
Nearly four years since the release of her critically-acclaimed album Melodrama, the Newzealander updated her website on Monday (Tuesday in Manila) with the derriere-forward photograph of herself at the beach for her new song "Solar Power", ushering a new era for her now-eight year career.
"ARRIVING IN 2021 … PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE," the caption below read, portending to her third album which can also be considered a jab at fans who haven't exactly made the last few years of her hiatus easy with their demands for a new record.
Rumors about Solar Power started swirling on the internet last week, which fans are rejoicing now for getting it right (on Twitter, "lorde" is trending for half a day already).
But their sleuthing skills are yet to be tested again, as their other speculation, about the second single apparently titled "Mood Ring", is yet to be proven.
Lorde's collaborator for Melodrama, Jack Antonoff, who spent the last few years producing award-winning albums for artists like Taylor Swift (case in point: 2020's Grammy Album of the Year Folklore) and Lana del Rey (for Norman Fucking Rockwell!), also posted Lorde's teaser on Instagram.
Lorde had told fans in May of 2020 via email that she had started recording new music with Antonoff in December of 2019, shortly after the death of her dog, Pearl.
“As I get older I realize there’s something to be said for the pleasant feeling of waiting for something of quality to become available to you," she said then.
Retreating from the spotlight has always been a Lorde thing. After her breakthrough debut album "Pure Heroine", she also took her time for Melodrama and went back to Auckland, her hometown.
"It’s a record about being alone..The good parts and the bad parts.” she told New York Times before, describing her second album.
