The low pressure area spotted east of Eastern Samar has intensified into a tropical depression and was named Emong, state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday.

Emong, the fifth tropical storm of the year,  is expected to move northwest traversing extreme Northern Luzon to Taiwan. Signal No. 1 may be raised in areas along the tropical cyclone's pathway, she added.

Apart from Emong, PAGASA  also spotted a low pressure area near Oriental Mindoro which could likewise develop into a tropical cyclone.

The two weather disturbances are seen to bring rains over parts of Luzon on Sunday.

More details to follow.
