Customers now have more time to pay water bills accumulated during the community quarantine. Water providers were directed to extend the grace period for payments to Sept. 30, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System said Thursday.

The MWSS called on Manila Water Company, Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. to suspend water service disconnection activities, resolve billing inquiries and complaints, and to provide customers enough time to catch up on past water bills during the grace period.

“The agency maintains that ensuring the availability of water for all is of utmost importance, especially during this time when such resource is most essential for hand washing and hygiene, to curb the COVID-19 pandemic,” the MWSS said.

Previously, Maynilad said it would extend payment grace period to Sept. 30 to help customers. Staggered and installment payment schemes for both water providers will still be in effect.
