Motorists can use the recently opened lanes of the Skyway Extension project's northbound section for free until further notice, San Miguel Corp said Monday.

SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon S. Ang said the four-kilometer northbound section from Susana Heights to Sucat in Parañaque can be used by Class 1 vehicles with RFID stickers following structural completion and asphalt-laying done last month.

Last January, vehicles were also permitted to pass through the then recently opened Skyway Stage 3 until further notice.

"I am proud to announce to motorists from the south that finally, our long-awaited Skyway Extension northbound section is finally open. Our long-term solution to addressing traffic particularly on SLEX heading to the Alabang area has finally been realized," Ang said.

The extension is part of government efforts to decongest EDSA. The northbound section is yet to open its third and final lane, which is seen to a capacity of 4,500 vehicles per hour.
