Former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo trended on Twitter in the Philippines on Monday, with netizens citing her lack of energy in hosting the pageant's 69th edition that was won by Mexico.
Somebody give her a glass of Milo to fill her energy gap, said one of the more popular tweets. Culpo won in 2012, with Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon as her first runner up. Many Filipino fans feel Tugonon aced the interview round that year and should have won over Miss USA Culpo.
Culpo, now a TV host, model and beauty influencer, was one of the top trending on Twitter with more than 250,000 tweets. As Filipino fans grieved the loss of Rabiya Mateo (who finished in the Top 21), they found amusement in the ex-Miss Universe beauty's hosting stint.
Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa joked that Culpo should have handed over the mic to Tugonon. Both Filipina beauty queens were in the audience alongside 2011 Miss Universe Philippines Shamcey Supsup, now the national director of the Philippines' pageant.
Twitter users missed longtime Miss Universe host Steve Harvey, who sat the 69th edition out after hosting from 2015 to 2019. Yes, Harvey was the one who missed Pia Wurtzbach name as winner of the 2015 pageant.
Mateo's feat broughtthe Philippines'semifinals placement to 11 consecutive editions. "Rabiya" was trending on Twitter with more than 500,000 tweets.
Pinoy pageant fans also noticed the "Catriona vibes" Miss Thailand Amanda Obdam displayed during her evening gown walk. Gray won in Bangkok and Obdam's walk, gaze and gown styles are often compared to the Filipino-Australian's winning looks.
Miss Mexico Andrea Meza took home the crown, with Brazil, Peru, India, and Dominican Republic completing the Top 5.
