Over 800,000 Filipinos have finished Step 1 of registration for the national ID, two weeks since online applications began, the Philippine Statistics Authority said Monday.

By the end of 2021, some 70 million Filipinos are expected to be part of the Philippine Identification System, or PhilSys, which provides the public with a super ID containing all the valuable information for opening accounts, availing loans, and verifying identity.

In total, over 34 million individuals have finished Step 1 of the registration process—almost half the PSA’s goal. This includes applicants from the PSA’s door-to-door data collection process which started in October 2020, and the online applicants that signed up starting May 2021.

Technical glitches marred the first day of online registration after 40,000 people attempted to access the website upon opening. After fixes, the site is seen to make ID application more convenient for Filipinos nationwide.
