A potential super typhoon that's brewing off the Pacific Ocean will likely enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday and intensify rains over large parts of the country, PAGASA said.
The typhoon, which will be named Gardo (Hinnamnor), is unlikely to hit land in the Philippines. However, it will trudge slowly over the northern Philippine Sea towards the weekend as it heads to southern Japan as a super typhoon.
At 4 a.m. Tuesday, Hinnamnor was spotted 1,830 kilometers northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kph with 205 kph gusts.
A low pressure area was also monitored 1,210 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon, which can be a tropical cyclone or may be pulled by Hinnamnor, PAGASA said.
In the next 24 hours, fair weather with possible rains in the afternoon or evening due to thunderstorms are expected in the country, it said.
